Dont waste your sorrows
James 1:2-5 God is saying we need to have a whole new approach to the way we respond to trials. If someone is going through a trial it means they were being subjected to a test. So when trials come into our lives we are not to deal with them as random ‘accidents’ of mis-fortune. We need to see them for what they are; deliberate, purposeful tests specifically designed or allowed by our Creator to: separate the counterfeit from the genuine; refine the impurities from our hearts; and to develop strength & faith towards God.
Those who go through life understanding that every problem has a purpose move quickly to maturity. Instead of directing their emotions towards anger, self-pity, depression - they look for the lesson.
What you are going through right now is not about ‘now’. This life is all about preparing us for eternity. God is preparing you for purpose beyond this life. Everything about your life (every trial, temptation & offense) are leaving an impression on your life. And as your life passes through the hands of these seemingly random events – you are being shaped & fashioned for a purpose. Promise: Phil 1:6 “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”.
Here are some things that have helped me when I am going through a trial or a trouble:
1. Keep a spiritual journal. A recording of the lessons and insights learned in your life. “What did I learn today?” 2. Keep focused on good thoughts. Ph 4:8 “Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right”. Once you turn your thoughts and focus on something positive, obeying God, good, right, true, then all of a sudden you’ve pushed out the temptation. 3. Don’t do it alone. Even Jesus needed some friends around Him when He went through trouble.
